Nineteen-year-old Absidy Jones is a ghost magnet, a sensitive person spirits flock to when they can't cross over. After her brutal past escaping the hordes of ghosts vying for her attention, she spends her reclusive existence melting down iron into bite-sized pieces. Whether alloy or wrought, ancient paper clips or nails, consuming iron is the only thing that keeps the ghosts away. But when Absidy's sister goes missing in deep space, a dangerous place brimming with rogue planets, ship-eating nebulas, and vicious aliens, Absidy vows to find her. She leaves her safe haven and boards the first ship she can that's on a direct route to deep space - a ship that turns out to be haunted. To keep the malicious ghosts from killing her, the alluring bad boy pilot gifts her a small bundle of all the iron on the ship. But their growing relationship is tested with the crew's prying eyes and hidden secrets. While the ship sails into deep space, it's not just her sister's life that Absidy fears for. It's her own as well. Especially since her stash of iron has shrunk to zero.

This. Was. So. GOOD! I’ve never even heard of this author, but damn am I glad I took a leap of faith on her. I loved the story, the narrator, the characters…this is exactly the book I’ve been needing in my reader/reviewer life. The combination of sci-fi and paranormal was unique and the romance added a perfect level of spice to the mix.

Absidy was the kind of spunky, determined badass that gets your attention and keeps it from beginning to end. Her determination to rescue her sister was admirable and her resilience in the face of what was, quite frankly, terrifying made her all the more likeable. She made me laugh, cry, and root for her the entire way and I can’t wait to continue her journey. Our bad boy, Mase, grew on me fast and his chemistry with Absidy was electric.

Yikes, so I know I haven't said much about the plot of this one yet, and I'm not going to beyond saying that it'll grab you from minute one. The pace doesn't ever let up, and there are some truly haunting (yup, pun intended) moments that will raise the hair on the back of your neck. There's something about "Sail" that almost defies description and I hope you'll trust me when I say this is so, so worth your time to listen.

Kamala Alcantara (I love that name, by the way) was the perfect narrator for this story. Her pace was perhaps a little slow, but since Audible has this nice feature that allows you to speed things up a bit, that was a non-issue for me. She voiced the characters very well and it was easy to distinguish who was who, and her ability to narrate both male and female characters without overdramatization was admirable. This story was absolutely brought to life by Ms. Alcantara and I will be listening to more by her in the future!

Bottom line: Sorry for the shorter-than-usual review, guys; I had a hard time writing this without dropping spoilers, and “Sail” is honestly something you have to experience for yourself. Seriously, if you’re looking for an engaging paranormal sci-fi that grabs your attention from the jump, I highly recommend this one.
